Last Tuesday

Last Tuesday I presented a writing sample from my third grade field class, along with the honesty train activity. We discussed what the writer did well and what she could have worked on. Kelly and Deidra presented a lesson about writing short stories. We were each given a picture with only a few words on it, and asked to write a short story, or part of a story. A few students shared what they wrote. I remember that Aubry wrote a comical story about a boy at a restaurant. Later in the hour, the whole class participated in shared writing.

  1. I liked the writing sample that you chose because it was from a higher grade than we have seen by other students and it had different aspects to study than the past ones as well. Good job with the sample!

  2. I really liked the "honesty train" activity because my partners and I took it a little further than you asked (you'd asked us to make the word "honesty" and then read what aspect of honesty each car talked about), by making words out of the railroad cars, much like Marissa and Brittany asked us to do with the Chrysanthemum petals during the next class period. We were "playing", yet we were learning vocabulary and practicing spelling - good to remember for your students.
